There may be instances where a member of staff works half time by working one period on, one period off. This could also happen where two employees share the one position.
In this instance it is possible to halve the basic pay, by processing a shorttime code under the heading Overrtime and Shorttime, and pay a regular amount each Period to the employees rather than pay a full payment one period, and nothing the next. Care would have to be taken with deductions to ensure that they take into account the shorttime element.
The advantages of this would be:
- Company contributions would remain in place each period
- Less manipulation of the payroll with resultant exposure to error (care would also need to taken against fraud)
- Staff would have less problems budgeting
